No Make Up, Make Up Tutorial For Asian monolids

Thursday, September 29, 2011

Hey everyone, today I tried to make a "No Make Up" makeup look. Obviously I used some makeup but I think it looks quite natural :) If you want to watch the video, there is a little surprise, you will hear my voice for the first time! My voice sounds terrible and my accent is worse but I think it will be more helpful sometimes to understand what I mean. Let me know if you find that more interesting!

The main focus today is to keep a healthy look. So I worked a lot on my skin especially by trying to hide my imperfections, rednesses, pimples and fade my freckles.
I wanted to have a pretty glow but not in a shiny way. I used bronzer to contour my face, BB cream a some pink blush.

For my eyes, I also used the same bronzer but if you want to be the most natural possible, use a simple matte light brown eye shadow to give to your eyes some definition and some depth, which is the most important because monolids are desperately flat.

For lips, we keep that natural too, I only applied a nude lip liner and a gloss on top.

The video tutorial is also available, so if you want to watch it, it is HERE

To open up your eyes you can also line the rime of the eye with a flesh tone eyeliner. I don't recommend to use a white one because it is too visible and completely fake especially if you don't put it correctly the liner. We can see so many girls with white eyeliner on their lower lash line and personally I think it is awful.
If you prefer to have something more natural than this look, use a matte light brown eyeshadow under the lower lash line. It won't shine as my bronzer.
Make sure to go under and not on the lower lash line to fake a bigger eye.

I used a brown eyeshadow to smoothen my eyes and not my black Mac fluidline this time because it helps to define and increase the size of the look but in a natural way. It is much more softer than the harsh black color!

Cheeks are pink and fresh for this look and the rest of the face has a light wear foundation. I used Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm today but you can easily use a tinted moisturizer if you have one. If not, add one pump of moisturizer and one pump of foundation, mix and use it like that. You don't need to buy a new product each time you want to make a new look!

And of course, don't use bold lipstick!
Define your lips if they have some irregularities like mine. You can cheat and create bigger lips too, but use a nude color. Le gloss on top only helps to hydrate and give you a girly finish.

Jouer Cosmetics Haul: Everyday Must Haves and Lipsticks

Monday, September 26, 2011

This second Jouer haul was such a delight. This time I had two lipsticks (the review here) and the Everyday Must Haves set from their Signature collection. I confirm, I love this brand :)

Jouer has four different sets "to fit every individual's own personal fashion sense and style". Each set is a selection of the best combinations for everyday to special occasions. It is versatile and can be used with other products from the "Signature Collection"

As my first haul (Review here), it came with this elegant leaflet and some pricing.

As I already explained, Jouer Cosmetic has a funny concept. You can play and create combinations with your makeup which is handy and intelligent.

There is a sliding system with blush, bronzer, lipgloss and eyeshadow. I love the idea to carry your best combination on your purse or to travel. The only criticism I have to do about this brand, is that the concept stops in some articles. We can't play with lipsticks, or foundation, mascara, eyeliners, etc.
I think they could do something special with these products. Different pairings and combos, like an "eye set" with mascara/ eyeliner/eyeshadow, or "lip set" with lipstick/ lipgloss or "foundation set" primer/ foundation/ concealer. I don't know but extend this interesting idea to their entire line.

It is a very elegant packaging I think.

Sunshine bronzer, Pink champagne eyeshadow, Petal cheek tint.

Wind Lipgloss

This is the most natural lipgloss ever. A creamy nude pink with warm undertone.

Mineral powder bronzer in Sunshine.

It's a nice shimmery golden bronze. The swatches on my fingers and on my hand reflect the real color. It's very pigmented, so be careful not to apply too much product on your cheeks!

Sunshine Bronzer

Pink champagne eyeshadow. Not so pigmented compared to my other eyeshadows, but it a pretty everyday shade to highlight your inner corner and brow bone.

Petal Cheek Tint

It is a cream blush, a fresh baby pink, perfect to give you a sweet look.

Left: Pink champagne
Right: Petal

40 Beauty Tag!

1) How many times do you wash your face daily?

Twice a day: My morning routine: I use an exfoliator 3 times/week (Lancome  Gel Pure Focus) and my cleansing and polishing tool from Sigma because I have a really oily skin after a good night.
I usually wash my face every night too, before I go to bed, I use Clinique acne solution products, in three steps: Foam soap, toner and cream.

2) What skin type do you have?

Combination, sensitive. Oily on the T zone (For head, nose, chin) and dry on my cheeks.

3) What is your current cleanser?

My make-up remover: Bioderma Crealine H2o for sensitive skin, it is a french brand. I am using it for 5 years I guess. I also use the one for oily skin especialy on my T zone.
When I use waterproof mascara, I use Clinique Take the day off.

4) Do you exfoliate?

5) What moisturizer do you use?

6) Do you have freckles?

Yes! On my cheeks and  nose.

7) Do you use eye cream?

Not yet.

8) Do you or did you have acne prone skin?

I had some acne, but few pimples during my teenage years and some the week before periods, but not too much.

9) What foundation do you use?

It depend on the season and my mood :) I'm not very faithful about them.
I generally use Laura Mercier Oil free Foundation which has a medium coverage but I also use different types of BB creams, my favorite is Lioele Triple the Solution because it has full coverage and I am currently using Dr. Jart Water Fuse which is lighter.

10) How about concealer?

I love my Vichy Dermablend which is a foundation but because it has a full coverage, I use it to hide my freckles and my pimples.

11) Do you know your undertone?

I have yellow undertone.

12) What do you think about fake eyelashes?

I only use it to party and for some special events, like weddings, romantic nights, etc. It immediately gives you a touch of glamour!

13) Do you know that you are suppose to change your mascara every 3 months?

Yes, because your eyes are one of the precious thing of your body and you don't want to lose them! Mascara brushes can be infected by so many bacteries, so it is important to change your mascara quite often. Your eyes are sensitive so be careful not to arm them!

14) What brand of mascara do you use?

I am using Waterproof Dior Black out mascara and Rimmel Lash accelerator.

15) What is your favorite place to purchase your make-up?

I have several places! I like purchase online directly on band's websites because you always have good deals and samples to try. I try not to waste (too much) money and wait for redeems, sales, etc.
I of course like Sephora and Mac!

16) What makeup tools do you use in a makeup application?

I use everything I have which is the handiest. My fingers, a variety of brushes from a variety of brands. I love Sigma brushes at the moment. Not because I am affiliated but because it is quite cheap compared to other high-end brands and  their quality is pretty good. I also use a lot of Sephora's brushes.

17) Do you use makeup base/ primer for the eyes?

It depend of my day, the season, etc.
My favorite eye primer is definitely Urban Decay primer potion in Sin because it has pink champagne shimmers in it. I love it so much and my eyeshadow is so much more intense and stays all day long. I think it is the most effective eye primer I have ever tried! It can also be worn by itself, which is handy and so much faster.

18) For the face?

19) What is your favorite eyeshadow color?

I would say Taupe. I love that color because it is elegant, wearable and fits anybody.

20) Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?

I use gel eyeliner on my upper lash line and rarely pencil, because it is not intense enough, not super precise and smudge  and almost never use liquid eyeliner because it doesn't stay long and smudge.

21) How often do you poke yourself with an eyeliner?

Never but with my mascara always...I don't find small enough brushes to reach all my tiny lashes.

22) What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?

Love it but hard to work with especially because all the fallouts and it can smudge sometimes.

23) Do you use mineral makeup?

Yes, especially for foundation powders and blushes.

24) What is your favorite lipstick?

Mac See Sheer for day time  (Sheer brown coral) and Mac Red Russian (Deep red) for night.

25)  How about lipgloss?

Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect 877, a pink plum shimmery shade.

26) What do you prefer? Lipstick of Lipgloss?

Lipgloss because it shines and moisturize your lips at the same time.

28) What is your favorite blush to use?

29) Do you buy makeup on EBay?

Never

30) Do you like Drugstore makeup?

Not so much but it happens, especially for nails, lipsticks and mascaras.

31) Did you ever considered taking up Makeup Classes?

No, I love makeup but I am Interior Designer and I love my job.

32) Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?

No I have 15 years experience now :)

33) Name 3 makeup crimes that you hate.

- Light pink lips. I like nude lips but this is horrible! You look like a prostitute...sorry.
- Permanent makeup or dark lip liner...pouah!!
- Chalky foundation.

34) Do you like colorful shades of makeup or neutral?

I prefer neutral and wearable makeup but it depends on occasion, my mood, company.

35) Which celebrities always have great makeup?

Nathalie Portman, Diane Kruger, Olivia Palermo.

36) If you had to leave the house with just one makeup item, what would you use?

Eyeliner or gloss. I can't choose!

37) Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?

Yes, when I walk the dog...the worst moment of the day :) But usually it never happens!

38) Do you think you look good without any makeup on?

Ouch...I am not sure. I am the most insecure person on earth.

39) In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?

Very hard question in fact...If I had to pick just one, I would go with Mac. I am not very original but this the the brand which has the largest range of products, it is not so expensive compared to some other high-end brands and quality is perfect :)
I love Jouer Cosmetics that I discovered recently. They have a chic and neutral range of products which are fantastic.

40) What do you think of Makeup?

I think is helps lots of girls and women to feel more confidente and feel good about themselves, which is rather cool!

Jouer Cosmetics: Hydrating Lipstick Review, Valerie and Nicole

Friday, September 23, 2011

The first thing I noticed with those Jouer lipsticks is that their concept of playing with make-up is limited to gloss, eyeshadow, blush and bronzer. I don't know why they stopped here because the concept of pairing your favorite product is particularly well thought.

I think it would be great for Jouer to find a new concept focused on lipgloss and lipstick. "The Perfect Combination", I don't know what name would be the best, but why they stopped there? I personally almost always use lipgloss on top of my lipstick because I like my lips shine a bit and also because some lipsticks dry my lips.

I like the retro chic metallic packaging. I say retro because it is not  innovative and the design is classic. This champagne color is sophisticate and feminin, I like that.

Jouer says about these lipsticks: "This hydrating lipstick keeps lips protected and nourished with enduring beautiful coverage. A perfect balance of beauty and treatment."

I confirm, the coverage is good, especially for Nicole, the darker one and hydratation is pretty nice. You don't need to apply a lip balm under which is convenient.

Swatches: Valerie and Nicole

Valerie is a shimmery soft coral. Pretty natural and subtile but there is a little problem with it, it creases! The solution for this, exfoliate your lips before application! Like the shade a lot!
I also think that shimmers are too big and the consistency is quite heavy.

Nicole is a  shimmery bronzed pink, for me it is a light purple/plum with warm untertone. I prefer the texture and the color of this one. It matches better with my style. This shade is more sophisticate for day and elegant for night. The coverage is much more better. I don't know why because it has the same formula than Valerie...

♡♡/5

Overall:

♡ Pros:

+ Wearable colors.
+ Creamy and hydrating

 Cons:

- We can't play with it! It is such a pity!
- Crease, be careful of your dead skin.
- Coverage is not the best for the light shade.
- Texture and consistency is heavy.
- Shimmers are very intense.

Want To Play With Jouer Cosmetics? Haul And Review

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

What a fabulous surprise to discover such an interesting brand! It is not everyday that you find this type of toys! Jouer filled almost all the criteria I ask to a cosmetic company: Wearable colors, intelligent and beautiful packaging, elegant, chic and effortless way to use the products and last but not least, quality!

This summer, for my first haul (because I had a second one, that I will show you in another post, I am such a fan!) I only purchased three products to try: two eyeshadows and one lip gloss. The haul came with two samples of one of their best selling article, the tinted moisturizer that I really recommend for summer, because it is a light weight formula, sheer and a little bit too shimmery for fall or winter. I already tried it when I received a sample from one of my June Birchbox.
I love love love the presentation, nice light beige pearly boxes, a leaflet and a nice tracer paper look a like with all the pricing.

The concept of the brand is handy and funny. Make-up is a game and you can customize a palette according to your tastes with several combinations. I think it is an excellent idea especially for travelling or just to have some matching products to carry on your purse.

There is so many combinations to make, some of them are not the best but it is up to you to find the right one depending on that you prefer!

As you can see there is a sliding system which is super convenient and you can also stack your eyeshadows and play with it as a Lego toy.

This is my favorite taupe eyeshadow of all time. Seriously! Amaretto is creamy, pigmented and shimmers are discrete. This is the perfect shade for me. It gives me in one single touch more definition and an elegant finish. I currently use it every single day :)

Bordeaux is also an excellent color. I love plum/ purple eyeshadows and this one is wearable compared to so many eyeshadow of this kind on the market.
I like this fall shade. I use it on my lower lash line and use it as an eyeliner. It has warm brown undertone.

Sunset Lipgloss is not my favorite product even if I like the color. It is a pink champagne shade which is pretty and natural. I thought it wasn't as shimmery and I am not a big fan of the  consistency especially on my lips. One more thing, it moisturize your lips like heaven but creases a lot!
